Buffer Essentials is $6 per channel per month, or $5 if you pay for a year up front. One channel is one account on one network. A creator posting to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook, Pinterest, Reddit and Bluesky needs ten channels: about $60/month, or $50 annually. Add a second brand handle on three of those and you are at thirteen channels. Buffer does apply volume discounts, but they start at 11+ channels — most individual creators never reach the band where the rate drops.

ViralNote Publish is $18/month regardless. It covers 5 accounts on each of the 10 networks, so the same creator has headroom for fifty connections without the price moving. Pro at $38 raises that to 10 per network and adds the clipping pipeline.

Where Buffer wins on price is at the bottom. Three channels on Buffer is free, forever. Three accounts on ViralNote costs $18, because our free tier does not publish. If you are a one-network creator, Buffer is cheaper and we would rather say so here than have you find out after subscribing.

What Buffer is still better at

Buffer has been doing this since 2010 and the polish shows. The queue model — set your posting times once, drop content into slots — is more refined than most competitors including us, and the browser extension for saving content on the fly is genuinely convenient.

Its free tier is the most generous real one in the category: 3 channels, 10 queued posts per channel, AI drafting included. Nothing in our lineup competes with free.

Buffer is also the safer institutional choice. It is a well-capitalised company with a long track record, and if you are recommending a tool to a client who will still be using it in three years, that matters. We are a smaller operation and you should weigh that.

Where Buffer stops is content creation. It distributes what you hand it. If your bottleneck is producing the short-form video in the first place, a better queue does not help — that is a different tool's job, and buying both is what makes the stack expensive.

When you should not switch to ViralNote

Three cases where we are the wrong call, stated plainly.

You post to three or fewer channels and never touch video. Buffer's free plan does that job at zero cost. Paying us $18 for it would be worse for you.

You need a unified social inbox. Buffer has comment and DM management on its paid tiers; we do not have an inbox at all. If replying to your audience happens in the same tool as posting, that is a hard requirement we do not meet.
